Brian Wilcove Joins Sofinnova Ventures
as an Information Technology Venture Partner
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – September 26, 2006 – Sofinnova Ventures, a San Francisco venture firm investing in early-stage information technology and life science companies, announced today that Brian Wilcove has joined the firm as a venture partner. Wilcove will focus on the sectors of networking and communications.
He was previously with TeleSoft Partners, where he was responsible for a number of investments in the systems, software, services and wireless industries. Earlier in his career, Wilcove was a co-founder of Virtela Communications, a managed communications services company, where he served as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development. In another roll he was responsible for Qwest's IP product portfolio, where he launched and managed the profit and loss of four business units, including launching the industry’s first network VPN product.
“It’s a pleasure to join the Sofinnova Ventures team,” Wilcove said. “The firm’s aggressive yet controlled approach to investing will allow me to focus on portfolio companies’ long-term growth and market strength, beyond the financials. That’s a fulfilling proposition.”
“Brian brings a number of strengths to Sofinnova, including a mix of operational and venture experience, and a deep understanding of the wireless sector,” commented Eric Buatois, General Partner at Sofinnova Ventures. “We have confidence in the contributions that he will make as our team further capitalizes on compelling opportunities in the wireless space, locally in Silicon Valley and in global emerging markets.”
